"Crowned for a Purpose"
Living Out Your Royal Assignment
Key Scripture: Romans 5:17 (NASB)
"For if by the offense of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."
Introduction:
Last week, we talked about what it means to Walk Like Royalty—to live in the authority, character, and purpose God has given us. But here’s the question: What is the purpose of being royalty? A crown is not just for display—it signifies responsibility, calling, and a divine mission. You were crowned for a purpose!
And this leads us directly to what we will begin studying in depth next week: “The Purpose of Jesus’ conviction, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Jesus didn’t just come to give us a title—He came to give us a mission! Today, we will explore how your royal identity connects to Christ’s ultimate purpose on the cross.
- Royalty is Meant to Reign
Scripture: Revelation 5:10 (NASB)
"You have made them into a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign upon the earth."
Illustration 1: Imagine a manager at a company who has been given full authority to lead, make decisions, and drive success—but instead, they sit back, avoid responsibility, and let chaos take over. Employees become confused, productivity drops, and eventually, the company struggles. Just like a king who refuses to rule, a leader who doesn’t lead allows disorder to reign.
Application: Many believers live this way spiritually. Christ has given us authority, but we often let fear, doubt, or complacency take over instead of stepping into our God-given role. Just as a company needs a leader to step up, our lives need us to take hold of the authority Jesus has given us!
Illustration 2: Imagine a mother and wife who has a home to manage, a family to care for, and the ability to create a loving, peaceful environment—but instead, she disengages. She lets disorder take over, meals go unprepared, relationships become strained, and the house falls into chaos. She has the ability to bring structure, nurture, and wisdom into her home, but if she doesn’t step into her role, everything around her suffers.
Application: In the same way, God has given us authority to reign in life, but if we don’t walk in it, the enemy brings disorder into our lives. Just as a housewife’s presence, leadership, and care bring stability to her home, we are called to bring God’s kingdom order into our lives, families, and communities.
Illustration 3: Imagine a king who refuses to rule. He has authority but never uses it. His kingdom suffers, his people are lost, and the enemy takes over. A king who does not reign is a king in name only.
Application: Many Christians live below their royal status, allowing sin, fear, and doubt to rule over them instead of reigning in life through Christ. Jesus didn’t go to the cross just to give us a title—He went to restore our dominion.
- Royalty Serves for a Greater Cause
Scripture: Mark 10:45 (NASB)
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Ilustration 1: Picture a father who provides financially for his family but never invests time in his children, never teaches them, never leads by example. He enjoys the comforts of his home but leaves the responsibilities of parenting and spiritual leadership to someone else. Over time, his children lack guidance, his marriage weakens, and his family drifts apart. Would he be respected? Would he be fulfilling his purpose? No! True fatherhood, like true royalty, serves.
Application: Just as a father is called to lead, protect, and serve his family, we are called to serve God’s kingdom. Jesus, the King of Kings, didn’t just sit on a throne—He humbled Himself and served. If we are truly His heirs, we must follow His example, using our position to serve others and advance His mission.
Illustration 2: Picture a child who is part of a loving family, with parents who provide, guide, and care for them—but instead of contributing, they take everything for granted. They enjoy the food, the shelter, and the benefits of being in the family, but they never help with chores, never show appreciation, and never take responsibility. As they grow older, they continue expecting everything to be handed to them without ever learning to give back. Would they be fulfilling their role as a member of the family? No! True maturity comes when a child learns that being part of a family means both receiving and giving.
Application: In the same way, many believers enjoy the blessings of being children of God but never take responsibility in His kingdom. Jesus calls us not just to receive His grace but to serve with purpose. Just as a mature child contributes to their family, we must step into our role as active members of God’s kingdom, serving and sharing His love with others.
Illustration 3: Picture a prince who only enjoys the wealth of the palace but never lifts a hand to help his kingdom. Would he be respected? Would he be fulfilling his purpose? No! True royalty serves.
Application: Jesus, the King of Kings, humbled Himself to serve and give His life on the cross. As His heirs, we are called to serve His mission. The cross wasn’t just about forgiveness—it was about restoring purpose. How are you using your position (your person) to serve?
3. Royalty Lives with a Mission
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NASB)
"Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God."
Illustration 1: Imagine a company that sends one of its employees to represent the business in another country. This employee is given full authority to negotiate deals, uphold the company’s values, and expand its influence. But instead of focusing on the mission, they blend in with the local culture, forget their responsibilities, and stop representing the company’s interests. When the company checks in, they realize their representative has failed the mission. Would they still be trusted? Would they still be considered a valuable part of the organization? No! A true representative stays focused on their purpose.
Application: In the same way, we are sent into the world as ambassadors for Christ, not to blend in, but to represent Him in all we do. Our words, actions, and decisions should reflect the King who sent us. Just as a company expects its representatives to stay true to their mission, God calls us to live with purpose, showing His love and truth to the world around us.
Illustration 2: Imagine a church that has been planted in a community to bring hope, healing, and the message of Jesus. The congregation has been given resources, spiritual gifts, and opportunities to make an impact. But instead of reaching out, they become inward-focused—only gathering for themselves, enjoying their fellowship, but never stepping out to serve their neighbors or share the gospel. Over time, the community remains unchanged, and the church loses its influence. Would they be fulfilling their mission? No! A true church is a beacon of light that serves and influences its surroundings.
Application: God has placed our church in this community for a purpose—to reflect Jesus, serve others, and advance His kingdom. We are not here just to gather; we are here to go out and make a difference. As ambassadors for Christ, our mission is to be His hands and feet, bringing hope and the gospel to those around us.
Illustration: A kingdom sends ambassadors to foreign lands to represent its king. We are God’s ambassadors—our mission is to reflect Jesus in everything we do.
Application: You were saved for a mission. Your royalty isn’t just about enjoying blessings—it’s about being an ambassador of the King. This ties directly into our upcoming series: Jesus’ purpose on the cross wasn’t just to save you—it was to send you!
Closing Challenge:
Jesus didn’t just die to rescue you; He died to restore you. Next week, we begin a deep dive into why Jesus went to the cross. But before we study His purpose, let’s commit to walking in our purpose today:

- Serve with Purpose – Use your gifts for His glory.
- Live on Mission – Be an ambassador for the Kingdom.

Let’s prepare our hearts for what God is about to do! Amen!
